Suggested routes:
Route 1: Virpazar - old island prison of Grmožur - Raduš spring - Virpazar
Discover the legends of the Montenegrin Alcatraz, swim at the lake's deepest spot and enjoy the varied bird life and stunning backdrops. Usual duration: 3 hours.
Route 2: Virpazar - Manastirska Tapija bird reserve - St Nikola monastery, Vranjina - Virpazar
Keen birders will love this circular trip, which passes the old fortress of Lesendro, the bird reserve and one of the most interesting of the lake's five Orthodox island monasteries. Usual duration - 3-4 hours.
Route 3: Virpazar - Kom Monastery complex - Virpazar
The beautifully preserved and restored 14th Century Kom Monastery deserves a trip all of its own. Stunning original frescos, views to die for and as usual, plenty of bird life! Usual duration - 4-5 hours.
Route 4: Virpazar - Raduš spring - island monasteries of Starčevo Gorica, Beška and Moračnik - Virpazar
This 6/7 hour long trip takes you down to the muslim southern shores of the lake to visit the three most remote island monasteries, framed by the awesome Procletian mountain range in Albania on the other side of the lake.
